Community Outreach

The SBT GRVL team has dedicated extensive time and resources to work closely with the Steamboat community, Routt County representatives, local organizations, and event participants to minimize our impact on the Routt County community. We are committed to working closely with both residents and local agencies and have outlined the actions we have taken in an effort to keep the public up to date with our outreach, and changes for this year’s event.

For our 2025 event, starting Wednesday June 25th until June 29th, we will have a Community Command Center phone line available. The number is (720) 805-9751. This phone line is intended for our community members to be able to reach an official SBT GRVL team member to communicate safety, medical, or stewardship concerns with a confirmed SBT GRVL rider.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT INITIATIVES

    • The SBT GRVL team has been engaging in dialogue to address concerns and provide information to residents along the 2025 race courses, including meetings with private landholders along the route.

    • The SBT GRVL team hosted Information Sessions in both North and South Routt County to update rural residents on the 2025 courses, share key information about race details, and educate residents about potential impacts during the event.

    • The SBT GRVL team is visiting every available resident who lives on the 2025 courses before the June 28th and June 29th events.

    • The SBT GRVL team will continue to actively reach out to rural community members to discuss safety, liability, and stewardship measures.

    • We are continuing our work with The Cycle Effect, a local organization committed to empowering young women through mountain biking to create brighter futures and build stronger communities and will once again be dedicating the proceeds from our Friday Night HLL CLMB to this influential non-profit.

    • We continue to partner with, and support, Routt County Riders, who tirelessly engage civically and advocate for trail diversity and road infrastructure improvements throughout the Yampa Valley and beyond.

    • We are excited to announce our new 2025 advocacy partnership with Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, an organization providing sports and youth development programming for over 1,300 athletes every year.

    • We are excited to highlight our three local beneficiaries for 2025: Routt County 4-H Scholarship Foundation, TotallyKids, and Boys and Girl Club.

    • The SBT GRVL team continues to meet with Bicycle Colorado and other state representatives to strategize on improving the alliance between recreation and agriculture and enhancing cycling events statewide.

    • The SBT GRVL team meets regularly with our local advocacy partners to help collaborate and strategize ways to bring groups of people together to learn what this community needs and how large events can be executed safely and effectively while minimizing impact.

    • SBT GRVL continues to work closely with our local advisory board of influential Routt County members. This group meets monthly to strategize and collaborate on ways to engage with the local community, foster positive relationships with landowners and rural residents, and create a model for how agriculture and recreation can co-exist.

    • SBT GRVL continues to work closely with Routt County GIS to ensure accurate and timely communication with residents along the race courses.

    • SBT GRVL continues to work closely with local government officials and law enforcement from both the County and the City to ensure that our race prioritizes public safety and stewardship.

    • SBT GRVL continues to hold regular information sessions for rural community members to provide updates and engage in open discussions about the event.

    • Since 2019, SBT GRVL has donated over $130k to local nonprofits. These nonprofits include: Boys and Girls Club, Routt County Riders, Community Ag Alliance, CCALT, Search and Rescue, Old Town Hot Springs, The Cycle Effect, Yampatika, Rotary Club of Steamboat Springs, Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, Colorado Gives, and Colorado United Way.

    • Members of the SBT GRVL team engage monthly with the community through teaching spin classes, giving motivational talks, volunteering with local partners, and meeting with key stakeholders.

    • In 2024 the Routt County Commissioners implemented a new large event permitting process and approved the new SBT GRVL event permits. This permit approval was based on SBT GRVL’s efforts to minimize impact on the local community by creating new routes, eliminating two-way rider traffic, increasing on course officials and utilizing Colorado State Patrol to direct the front of the race. SBT GRVL continues to comply with all requirements for the 2025 event.

    • The SBT GRVL team will communicate directly with residents, providing detailed information about event logistics, safety measures, and changes to prioritize community welfare. These communications have occurred through direct mail, information sessions, in-person 1-1 conversations, phone calls, and public forums.

    • SBT GRVL continues to engage with local organizations, including a partnership with Totally Kids through our official 2025 SBT GRVL sock design contest.

    • SBT GRVL is hosting local Information Sessions, and is sending a series of newsletters to keep local businesses and residents informed about the race and related activities.

    • SBT GRVL is visiting every available on-course resident who lives on the 2025 courses.

    • The SBT GRVL team is hanging posters and flyers throughout downtown businesses and throughout surrounding rural communities with event information and direct numbers to our command center communication line, where residents can report, address and respond to concerns during the event.

    • SBT GRVL will be featured in the Steamboat Pilot and on Steamboat Radio with informational ads and interviews leading up to the event.

    • Regular emails have been, and will continue to be sent to the entire local database to announce and notify businesses and individuals of important race week and race day information
